Why are the fields different between asset categories?

In SBN, each asset will have a set of common fields such as name, id, barcode, location, and owner. All other available fields are set at the category level.

The common fields will show in the asset details section and are fixed in their type. 

All other fields are custom configured and will be of the following types:
